The existing research infrastructure is valued closed to 6.5 M Euros and consists in over 20 research equipment with an individual value of more than 100,000 Euros considered fundamentally for increasing the ICSTM of VUT chances of absorbing funds from:
- national and international CDI projects
- the institutional development fund (CNFIS-FDI)
- contracts with other universities, institutes, agencies, organizations and economic agents.
EMS Pilot Instalation
Integrated EMS (Energy Management System) monitoring system related to university campus buildings (1x rectory, 2x educational buildings, 1x research institute, 3x student dormitories). Ensures the collection and analysis of measured data from electricity and natural gas meters.
Performs metering and sub-metering of loads (measurement at connection plus measurement of auxiliary consumers: heating plants, data centers, heat pumps / chillers, ventilation units, etc.). It is composed of electricity quality meters and analyzers (Schneider iEM3000, PM3000, PM5000, PM8000) on the electric vector and meters with volumetric corrector (ITRON rotary piston meter and with ELSTER membrane) on the natural gas vector.

An ebulliometer will provide one of the easiest, fastest, most accurate methods of determining the alcohol content in dry wines. The test is based on the difference in boiling points of water and wine. This well-designed electric ebulliometer form Dujardin Salleron, using an electronic probe with regulated electric heater and continuous refrigeration, is able to directly and precisely determine the alcohol content of dry wines in less than 6 minutes.

Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) SU-70 Coupled With Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), with Wavelenght Dispersive Spectrometer (WDS) and EBL
The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) SU-70 (manufactured by Hitachi, Japan) is a very sensitive research equipment, with field emission, and is based on a Schottky electron source. SU-70 includes several modules required for surface analysis of materials; for processing materials nanolithography (EBL), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and wavelength dispersive spectrometry (WDS). All these modules are attached to the equipment.
ICSTM Building Management System (BMS)
Integrated monitoring and remote control system BMS (Building Management System) for ICSTM building installations. Assures HVAC control (1x cold water Chiller, 2x hot water Boilers and 4 hydraulic distribution circuits, 3 Air Handling Units, 35 fan coils) and lighting installation for laboratories and hallways. Monitors: the fire alarm system, burglar alarm, access control system, dangerous gases emissions, laboratories energy consumption, perimeter drainage network. It’s comprised of 8 automation controllers PLC (Honeywell CLEA2026B21) and over 40 combined IO modules CLIOP831A and CLIOP824A. The system encompasses sensors for temperature, pressure, air quality, noise, dangerous gases emissions (CO, Acetylene, Hydrogen). The system integrates ModBus communication with the thermal power plant, Chiller, AHU’s, alarm systems for fire and burglary, ambient thermostats and electricity meters.
Elementary Analyzer C, S and Cl solids analysis Multi EA 4000
Multi EA 4000 is a device used for the determination of carbon (TC, TIC), sulfur (TS) and chlorine (TCl) of solid samples or viscous paste. The operating principle of the device is based on the high-temperature combustion (1000 – 1500 ° C) of samples in oxygen flow. The core of the device is the furnace which provide high temperature necessary for sample decomposition (pyrolysis and combustion oxidation).
